Topics in Representation Theory: Roots and Weights

چکیده

Last time we defined the maximal torus T and Weyl group W (G,T ) for a compact, connected Lie group G and explained that our goal is to relate the representation theory of T to that of G. One aspect of the representation theory of T and of G for which there is a simple relation is that of their representation rings. Consider representations π of a compact Lie group G on complex vector spaces and recall that a representation is characterized up to isomorphism by its character χπ : g ∈ G→ Tr(π(g)) ∈ C

Topics in Representation Theory: SU(2) Representations and Their Applications

We've so far been studying a specific representation of an arbitrary compact Lie group, the adjoint representation. The roots are the weights of this representation. We would now like to begin the study of arbitary representations and their weights. An arbitrary finite dimensionsional represesentation will have a direct sum decomposition V = α V α where the α are the weights of the representati...

Topics in Representation Theory: Roots and Complex Structures

To recap our story so far: we began by identifying an important abelian subgroup of G, the maximal torus T . By restriction any G representation π is a T representation π|T . In general π|T is a reducible T representation and the irreducible representations of T (which are all one-dimensional) that occur in π|T are called the weights of π. Irreducible representations of T , and thus weights, ar...

Topics in Representation Theory: The Weyl Integral and Character Formulas

We have seen that irreducible representations of a compact Lie group G can be constructed starting from a highest weight space and applying negative roots to a highest weight vector. One crucial thing that this construction does not easily tell us is what the character of this irreducible representation will be. The character would tell us not just which weights occur in the representation, but...

بررسی تکوین نظریۀ ولایت عارفانه بر مبنای استحالۀ تمثیلی و چگونگی انتقالِ آن به عصر سهروردی

Many researchers have researched the source of Islamic Sufism from a certain intellectual disposition. The prevailing view of these research works, is based on arbolic thinking and having centralized roots. According to the theory of allegorical Metamorphosis, each of the topics discussed in Islamic Sufism, can have separate roots. The present paper aims to show that Iranian Culture is one...
